"Holly"
Holly
is a fourteen year-old Jenny Burro. She is a direct descendant
from the wild burros found in the Spring Mountain Range of Southern
Nevada. Holly had been bottle fed and human imprinted at two weeks.
She is owned by George Condon; a professional wild mustang and
burro gentler, who is also a past president of the National Wild
Horse and Burro Association. Over the period of nearly ten years,
George has shared his pet Holly with Diamondback Dave for his
many mountain pack trips and more than 75 special events.
Holly
weighs about 450 pounds and can comfortably carry a pack saddle
load of 1/4 her own weight. She has amazing hearing and distant
vision qualities. From across a one-half mile canyon, she can
spot a jack rabbit and hear the voices of hikers. Her demeanor
is one of kindness and she displays a calming affect on most who
come around her. Up on the gold trail, Holly is known to watch
over Diamondback Dave when he takes his afternoon siestas.
Her
favorite treats are Kellogg's Raisin Bran and of course carrots.
She especially enjoys climbing to a high lookout point in order
to experience large panoramic views. Just as her ancestors from
the 1800's, Holly becomes a loyal companion to Diamondback Dave
when she transforms into his beast of burden.
